At Xwatch, we are proud to be at the forefront of innovation and safety in the construction equipment industry.
Recently, our engineers Adam Guilfoyle, Billy Hughes, and Ryan Tudor have been leading a significant project involving the installation of our advanced XW5 systems on 20 JCB 245XR machines. This initiative is part of Flannery Plant Hire's substantial investment in new machinery, with over £105 million committed this year alone.
The JCB 245XR machines, each weighing 28,009 kg, are specially designed to excel in tight and congested environments such as modern highways and housing developments. Their reduced tailswing radius of 1.72m, 40% less than the previous 220X model, allows for safer and more efficient operation near buildings and road barriers.

The XW5 system we are installing significantly improves the operational capabilities and safety features of the JCB 245XR. Our system provides a safe working envelope around the machine and the operator, managing the machine's height, slew, and rated capacity indication. This comprehensive safety system ensures that every aspect of the machine's operation is controlled with precision. Height control is managed through feather touch ramped hydraulic slowdown and soft stop mechanisms, eliminating machine bounce and overshoot or undershoot. This protects the machine and also ensures a safer environment for the operator and surroundings. An optional chassis sensor can be installed to correct for terrain slope, further enhancing stability and accuracy.

Slew control is a critical part of the XW5 system, addressing an often-overlooked aspect of site safety. By controlling the slew precisely, our system enhances safety and productivity, seamlessly integrating into the overall site safety plan. Additionally, the Rated Capacity Indicator (RCI) ensures the safe operation of lifting equipment throughout the machine's working envelope. By continuously measuring the machine's height, radius, and load, the RCI allows operators to work at maximum lifting capacity while remaining within the safe working load (SWL), preventing overloading and potential accidents.
The XW5 system, with its advanced features, offers comprehensive safety and operational enhancements, providing operators with complete peace of mind. This innovative system ensures that all motions are controlled precisely, improving the machine's longevity and safeguarding the operator and surrounding environment. By investing in these advanced systems, Flannery Plant Hire is enhancing the efficiency and safety of their operations and setting a new standard in the construction equipment industry.
This strategic investment in advanced technology and machinery reflects Flannery Plant's forward-thinking approach and commitment to safety and excellence. As the installation work progresses, the combined expertise of our engineers Adam Guilfoyle, Billy Hughes, and Ryan Tudor will ensure that these machines are ready to meet the demanding needs of modern construction environments. Thank you JCB and Flannery for your trust in Xwatch.
