The Xwatch engineering team are always 'thinking outside the box' when designing safety systems for the construction equipment sector. It's this innovative and forward thinking approach, that brought the new SS3 Pile Monitor to market.
Xwatch Safety Solutions UK business development manager, Jemma Dycer-Hopkins discovered the prototype laying dormant on the 'shelf'. Engineer Stuart Franklin had been investigating what could be done with a CR0452 (programmable graphic display for controlling mobile machines) as a stand alone product. Jemma saw its potential and identified a customer who would be very interested in the system. Stuart completed the design of the system and the SS3 Monitor for Piling Machines was born!
Jemma made a call to James Kay, owner and technical engineer at Kaymech Solutions Ltd, who took the system onboard for trialling. James then installed the SS3 on his customer Zublin's piling machine in October of last year, where it went on trial on the Hull A63 scheme, which forms part of Highways England’s £355m A63 Castle Street scheme.
The Xwatch team is pleased to report that the system has been used daily since the installation date - and there have been ZERO defects. Both James, Zublin, and contractor, Balfour Beatty, have been so impressed, they have since ordered a second system which is now working on another piling machine on the same project.
The SS3 can monitor any piling mast angle - telematics can also be added.
The SS3 is a no-nonsense pile monitor which consists of a colour LCD display. This is mounted at the operator station or within the equipment cab. The Dual axis MEMS angle sensor is mounted on the mast or attachment. All control is via the display push buttons, operation is simple and fool proof.
Angle sensors
Compact solid state 3 axis accelerometer with gyro compensation. Stainless steel, IP67. CAN J1939. Steel mounting bracket. Can be mounted anywhere on the front end equipment in any orientation. Direct drive performance.
Control Module
The SS3 control module samples angle data 250 times a second providing precise control. Components are supplied by a leading edge German manufacturer with a 50 year track record in industrial control. Reliability and longevity are key. Bar occasional visual inspection, the system is maintenance free.
Base system
Major components carry a five year guarantee excluding mis-use and physical damage.
