Xwatch, part of Hexagon, systems are designed to improve site safety, are installed on all types of equipment from excavators to dumpers and access equipment to piling machines. These systems aim to reduce damage to machinery and structures while prioritising the safety of the life of the operator and surrounding personnel, which is the most crucial factor of all. They are known for their reliability and simplicity, enabling customers to monitor plant machines on-site effectively. These systems can limit height, slew, and load, and the software can send alerts to the driver, particularly if there is a risk of the machine rolling when navigating inclines.
🛠️ ABOUT THE ROLE
- 🎯 Design, develop and integrate software control systems to meet project requirements and timescales
- 💻 Using the software development process develop PLC software using CoDeSys
- 🧪 Create, execute, and document integration tests for the software system and machine interfaces
- 🔧 Support the installation and commissioning team for calibration and functional verification
- 📜 Ensure software systems are designed according to engineering procedures and compliance with the regulatory standards
📝 Expectations for the role:
- 🛠️ You will be expected to provide technical support to the installation teams and customers where required
- 🌍 Ability to undertake occasional travel to customer sites to verify the software systems
- ⏳ Manage project work and timescales and be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- 📋 To adhere to all statutory regulations and to HGS company policies always
- 🔄 To undertake any reasonable duties as required

🧑💻 Skills and Experience
- 🎓 An engineering or science degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience
- 🛠️ Proficient in the use of engineering design tools and test verification tools
- 💡 Experience developing code for electro-mechanical interfaces
- ⚙️ Knowledge of PLC logic programming and test using CoDeSys functional block diagrams and structured text languages
- 📐 An understanding of safety related software design techniques and IEC 61508-3 an advantage
- 🖥️ Experience developing graphical user interfaces for machine control
- 🗂️ Methodical and systematic approach
- 🧩 Strong problem-solving and reporting skills
- 🗃️ Good organisational skills
- 🗣️ Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment or individually
- ⏱️ Ability to work in pressure situations and to tight deadlines

🤞 Desired but not essential experience (training will be given):
- 🛠️ Experience with 12v and 24v off road machinery
- 💧 Knowledge of hydraulics systems will be an advantage
- 📡 Familiarity with CAN based communication protocols CANopen and J1939
- 🔌 Software interfacing to CAN based sensors and analogue and digital sensors and actuators
- 🚜 Operation of wheeled and tracked excavators
🗣️ LANGUAGE:
- Fluent English written and verbal
- 📝 Ability to write reports, business correspondence and provide project management updates
- 🗣️ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
✈️ TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional travel may be required for this role
